David Saltmarsh is a chair maker living and working in West Dorset on his family smallholding, Fivepenny Farm.

He started off making straight copies of traditional Windsor chairs, using only hand tools for ten years.

The chairs have evolved somewhat but still aspire to the old styles and techniques. Power tool use is kept to a minimum and the machinery that he does use is powered on site wind and solar energy.

Although sets of chairs may be commissioned, no two will be identical. Each chair is unique and will show signs of character. All of the chairs are tool finished although the seats are generally smooth sanded.

The finished result is a hand-crafted chair that takes many hours to build and will last for generations.

His windsor chairs and tables are availiable to buy from our shop, or contact us if you have an idea for a comission. Find out how he uses traditional techniques to make his chairs here
